Baby Scans: An overview of pregnancy ultrasounds
Once you have completed our maternity registration form a member of our team will contact you to arrange your booking visit. The booking visit is your first appointment at the hospital and generally takes place during weeks 8 – 14 of your pregnancy. There is currently only one entrance open into the hospital, the main entrance. All other entrances are closed.

Pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic – what happens to my antenatal care?

That first appointment with the sonographer can be a little daunting, but it’s an important time to gather some key information about your growing baby.
If you arrive late, we may not be able to scan you and may have to reschedule your appointment. The dating scan and detailed anomaly scan are offered to all.
Early Pregnancy Ultrasound is used to confirm dates of conception and assess the early health of your pregnancy. This scan is usually carried out at around 8 weeks of your pregnancy. It may also be helpful to perform an internal scan transvaginal scan. Both types of scan are safe, and are carried out with minimal discomfort.
We require you to have a full bladder during this scan. Please drink one litre of water one hour before your appointment and try your best not to empty your bladder. If you experience difficulty doing this, please talk to us at the time of booking. You are not permitted to take photos or video during the scan. This is a medical procedure, and whilst we appreciate you are excited, the health of your baby is our primary concern and we ask for your support and understanding during this clinical appointment.
Due to the medical nature of the appointment we ask that you are accompanied by one person. Your Ultrasound will be performed by a Sonographer. They are specially trained medical professionals who perform ultrasounds. The images the Sonographer captures are then reviewed by a Radiologist who will generate a report for your referring doctor.
Antenatal appointments schedule
Our team have taken new measures to decrease the risk of the spread of the virus. Our Centre is cleaned between each and every appointment. If you or your loved ones have a high fever or new continuous cough. We advise you not to attend our scan centre if you or your family are at high risk of developing or passing the virus on.
